Summary/Abstract: Writing is used not only to improve students’ communication skills, but it is also to promote learning and to provoke critical thinking. In the field of engineering, writing and language learning contribute to analytical, organizational, and mechanical skills development. The ever-increasing use of computers and computer networks to organize and transmit information means the need for competent writing skills is rising in all the domains, not only in business and education. This paper presents some of the most common mistakes and errors observed in the papers produced by students in Master of Science, Department of Civil Engineering in The Technical University of Cluj-Napoca. Examples from actual papers are given along with the correction or at least improvement suggested by the teacher of English. An attempt is made to explain how to correct and prevent such mistakes.
