Summary/Abstract: The study analyzes the intrinsic and extrinsic values and preferences in the professional life held by young people in Bulgaria, in comparison with the older generation. Results of an empirical study (N=121) show that both groups prefer intrinsic over extrinsic values. However, differences do exist between the two generations. Younger people (18-35 years of age) highly value work-life balance and rank work lower among their life values while older respondents (above 35 years) give priority to opportunities for learning and development on the job. Salary is not in the focus of attention of either of the two generations.
