Summary/Abstract: The article provides a brief characteristic of theories on the origins of the food crisis. Its alleviation requires a systemic reforms of the commodity future markets and agricultural inputs markets. It is doubtful that the spike of food prices in 2007-2008 was caused by the expansion of biofuel production and fast growth of Chinese economy.
