Summary/Abstract: The article aims at analysing the origins of the housing crisis in the US by employing the institutional and historical method. It is claimed that the rapid increase of housing prices was a typical speculative bubble caused by financialization. Housing crisis cannot be merely reduced to the subprime crisis. Fannie and Freddie are only partly responsible for the crisis.
