Summary/Abstract: The article describes leadership theories, leadership styles and types. Leadership is basically a question of achieving the best fit between the leader’s personal attributes, the expectations and needs of his/her subordinates, the type of a task, and the enviroment in which the events take place. It is emphasized that managerial theories in fact are applied in practice and the qualities of an employee – both a leader and a member of a team - are purposefully formed seeking for a certain type of a personality. The author presents the researh analysing how typical qualities of Lithuanians correlate with the qualities required for a leader and a team member. There have been investigated how the respondents’ attitudes towards the qualities of a leader and a member of a team differ depending on sex, different age groups, education and position.
