The problems of libraries and protecting their resources in the light of articles selected from Polish journals of the years 1994—2013

Summary/Abstract: This article attempts to investigate the social awareness of the problems concerning the protection of the library resources. Continuing the analysis for the years 1946—1993 carried out by Jerzy Ratajewski, statements published in the Polish national press in the years 1994— 2013 were employed as a measure of public interest in this matter. The analyzed material allows concluding that the question of the protection of the library resources presented on the pages of the national journals has not changed desirably. Among the raised issues, the question of factors destroying the resources is dominant. Modern security systems installed predominantly in newly built or modernized libraries were dealt with relatively more frequently. The issue being focused on most often currently is the digitization of documents, which, however, is presented mainly in the context of accessibility to cultural goods by a general audience, rather than as a method of protecting the resources for future generations.
