Summary/Abstract: The subject of the article is the problem of the development of a pro-socialist oriented economy that did not join the path of market transformation at the turn of 1980s and 1990s, but has introduced economic changes at some point. These changes can initiate such a transformation, but it cannot be treated as a start of systemic shifts specific for the market transition. We shall call such an economy as one opposing the transformation. In the geopolitical layout such research relates to non-European countries which today, especially, include North Korea and Cuba. The text describes an up-to-date socio-economic development of North Korea and the future scenarios of its development keeping in mind the so called, ”Korean problem” taking root from the existence of two states with different systems and its possible implications for the world economy. A descriptive, analytical method is mainly used. Comparative method is used in relation to South Korea. For the theoretical starting point own autarky model is used, as well as, the market transformation mechanism where the processes of economic opening is of critical significance.
