A System for Digital Morphological Tagging for Old Russian and Church Slavonic Texts

Summary/Abstract: The paper describes a system of digital morphological tagging for Old Russian and Church Slavonic manuscripts developed at the Vinogradov Institute of Russian Language of RAS. The system provides a graphical interface for manual and semi-automatic tagging (based on precedents) of Old Russian and Church Slavonic texts (both original and translated), including a search engine. It allows to build lexical and grammatical indices to the text automatically. The texts are stored in YAML format, the data structure of this format is similar to the widely used XML format, but is more efficient than XML: a file in this format occupies less memory space and is quite simple and human-readable. This permits quick corrections of errors in the text if they arise.
