Summary/Abstract: Time is often taken as a given in psychotherapy, as in much of daily life. How much do we think about this, and ways in which our concepts of time are shaped by our socio-cultural backgrounds or intellectual heritage? How do we think about time from Freud’s and Palazzoli’s ideas? In this paper I put forward some first thoughts and ask questions in the context of a non-clinical family interview, and some reflections about ‘losing time’ in a clinical story. I link these thoughts to some philosophical and anthropological perspectives, and just touch on possible implications for our understanding of time in the light of relativity theory.
