Summary/Abstract: The Resolution on issuing the passports with no-contact electronic memory element in October 2009 in BiH officially inaugurated the process known as personalization of passport of the new generation. It all began on 15 October 2009. The questions asked are what biometry and biometric passports are. Firstly, biometry derives from the greek words „bios“ – life and „metron“ – measuring, which presupposes automatic recognition of the face based on its distinctive features. Those features may be „physiological, physical“ such as face, finger prints, palm geometry, iris, ear shape, odour, DNK or perhaps „bihavioural“, such as one s signature, voice, walking style or typing dynamics. On the other hand, the biometric passport presents the kind of travelling document that incorporates implemented memoty element comprising unique physical characteristics of its owner. Today in BiH the authorities in charge issue biometric passports (regular, diplomatic and official) and biometric identity cards. This action if surrounded and filled with controversis and ambiguities in terms of their justification. This paper deals with the subject of biometric passports.
