S KNJIGOM U SLOBODNO VRIJEME (MLADIH)
WITH BOOK IN THE (YOUNG PEOPLE’S) FREE TIME

Summary/Abstract: Once appreciated as the important segment of culture and the entire society, the book has been going through a kind of crisis characterized by neglect, depreciation, suppression in the recent decades due to different factors. This paper presents an attempt to give the insight into the importance of a book and culture of reading in the free time of the youth, through just one part of the survey research carried out in the first half of 2012, on the stratified, convenience sample consisted of 210 pupils of the secondary school (grammar and vocational ones) final classes in Mostar. Through the five-point Likert scale an ad hoc insight into the (dis)interest of the young people towards reading, particularly referring to their pros and cons related to the books in their free time, their reading motives and habits and, as far as possible, the role of the school. The book should be particularly important in the knowledge society and at the same time not neglecting the human, i.e. humanisation. However, the time will show whether it has been so.
