Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the linguistic dimension of communication in a second/foreign language taking into account some linguistic and psycholinguistic aspects. The study of language as a system and practical activity of knowing and applying the semantic, syntactic and pragmatic rules of a language is the result of learning and instruction. The way the students can operate effectively based on these norms is revealed through their verbal behaviours within a given communicative situation. Several oral communication linguistic characteristics with focus on ellipses, clichés, stock phrases, formulaic expressions, which make a conversation authentic, are presented. Some pedagogical considerations are highlighted as well to develop in our technical students proper language and behavioural conversational skills in a foreign language professional context.
