Summary/Abstract: The relocation of production activities has been a subject of both the scientific literature and the debate among business practitioners over the past three decades. During this period offshoring has become an inherent part of business strategies of companies operating in the international market. On the basis of extensive empirical research numerous theoretical concepts enabling to a large extent the understanding of the process of transferring abroad modules of the value chain were developed. However; in recent years an interesting paradox can be observed; because; as indicated by some studies; a lot of companies have experienced quite counterproductive effects of offshoring due to building their strategies on the basis of often wrong assumptions about the business environment. Consequently some companies were forced to reconsider their development strategies and to transfer production processes back to the home countries. The article aims at a better understanding of sources of reshoring – an important phenomenon both from scientific as well as practical point of view.
