Summary/Abstract: The characteristic of the North Korean political system is given by the measure in which the power and legitimacy are centralised within the Kim family, beginning with the dynasty founder – Kim Il-Sung – till his nephew, Kim Jong-Un. The illness of North Korean leader from the end of 2014 relieved, once again, the opacity od the succession to the state leadership issue, currently being no identifi ed and credible successor, from Kim family, of the current leader. If Kim Jong-Un will die or leave the leadership, it is unlikely to fi nd a veritable successor of family, the most probable scenarios are those of transition under the leadership of current elite or the state collapse. If Kim Jong-Un remains on power it is possible to increase the „democratisation” level of his leadership and to continue the power diffusion within the new elite, till will be born a male heir of the current leader. Paradoxical, in region and in peninsula, the North Korean regime is the most stable political and governmental entity from the last 40 years, despite the external image and its domestic economic issues.
