Summary/Abstract: This study analyses the dynamics of Islam and of the Muslim communities in Douala city, from a generational point of view. The study focuses on the comparison between the “slices of life” of the old generations (1970-1980) and those of the new generations (1990-2000). The data was collected taking into account the category and the generation of the subjects focused on, so as to emphasise the personal spiritual evolution and the interactions developed by the subjects with their own generation and with persons not belonging to it. An extremely interesting subject is the dichotomies between Arabophone believers and the Francophone believers. Highlighting the social contexts in which the adhepts of Islam act, their communication and promotion strategies, meant to give legitimacy to their presence in Douala, are other aspects that the study focuses on.
