Summary/Abstract: Our contribution deals with the genesis of organisation of celebrations of the 600th anniversary of foundation of the Charles University, which fell to April 1948. Early stages of planning can be traced all the way to the first half of the 1930s, when the highest university bodies started dealing with the issue based on the initiative of historians Jaroslav Prokeš, Otakar Odložilík, Václav Vojtíšek, František Michálek Bartoš, and Karel Kazbunda. By the time the Second World War broke out, the relevant bodies had discussed mainly the preparation of publications which were supposed to appear in connection with the jubilee. The war had severely disrupted the preparatory works and after its end, the whole process became politicised and was placed under state supervision. In appendices to the article, authors include documents which reflect the original proposed conception of a history of the university which was supposed to be written in connection with the jubilee.
