About Hypercorrect Stress

Summary/Abstract: Hypercorrect stress occurs when a speaker extends a stressing rule to include forms to which the rule does not apply. Thus the speaker makes a mistake from fear for making a mistake. It is sometimes difficult to determine which stress is hypercorrect, because a stressing standard is not always clearly cut. It is due to various factors: existence of two language standards (exemplary and colloquial), discrepancies between publications on language correctness, occurrence of stressing doubles.
