Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present assumptions of the research project Synchronic-Diachronic Studies on Contemporary Personal Names, fi nanced from the sources for science of the years 2008–2011. The object of the research is common Polish personal names. The outcome of the research will be initially presented in the form of an Internet dictionary, and later, in the form of a printed publication. The article shows principles of selection of linguistic units described in the dictionary, major methodological assumptions, which the research is based on and the structure of an example of an entry article.
