Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the role and importance of paradigm in political science. It hegins with in-depth look at famous Kuhn's "Structure of scientific revolutions" and searches for similarities in political science. Although Kuhn mostly deals with natural sciences, his views - as authors believe - may be applicable on political science as well. Paradigm is the crucial term we use. We try to identify and discuss the main paradigms that exercise major influence on political thinking till nowadays. However, we are aware of the fact that political science has - due to its "power" position - special place among other social sciences. We come to the conclusion that polilical science is from its definition and branch of study a multiparadigmatical science and for many reasons (one very important is the impossibility of neutral perception) it is not to be expected that one paradigm would be generally accepted. Such a complicated social system that political science has to study is not to be reduced deterministically. Therefore, we introduce, in the Czech Republic unfortunately rather unknown concept of the Complex adaptive systems theory, which is a dynamically developing "paradigm" promising better understanding of the intricate problems we encounter.
