National parliaments in the word in numbers.

Summary/Abstract: This article, drawing on the data from the 2012 IPU-UNDP Global Parliamentary Report, looks at various statistical aspects of functioning of the national parliaments worldwide. In the first section the author examines the number of parliamentarians (including the number of female parliamentarians) and the size of constituency. In the next section she compares various aspects of the parliamentary work, such as the number of plenary sessions, number of committees as well as the number of parliamentary staff and the level of the budgets. The article concludes with an attempt to answer how the Polish parliament is similar or different from the other national parliaments.
