Summary/Abstract: История вкратце о болгарословенском народе (A Short History of the Bulgarian-Slavonic People) is one of the least studied Bulgarian historiographic texts of the 18th c. There are some unproven and disputable theses regarding essential characteristics of this work in Bulgarian historiography. The author of the paper disagrees with the idea that Paisiy of Hilendar, Spiridon Gabrovski and the unidentified author of the Zograf Chronicle shared the same views and worked closely together in the field of historiography. The author defends the concept that regarding genre the work can be defined as a chronicle. Its main characteristics are: the intention to connect the history of the Bulgarian state and people to Biblical times; the telegraphic style of exposition based on the sequence of rulers; the strict chronological order; the lack of an attempt to explain historically, psychologically or otherwise the actions of the historical figures. It is argued that because of the present state of the sources the author of the work cannot be identified. Attempts in this respect would inevitably be accompanied by insufficient evidence, and would be marked by arbitrary and subjective choice. In view of this the problem of the authorship of the chronicle cannot be considered a scholarly problem. The question of the dating of the work faces similar problems. The state of the analyses and of the presented arguments allows us only to assert with certainty that it was written between 1759 and 1785.As a whole the Zograf Chronicle may be defined as a late attempt to create a complete chronicle of the Bulgarian state and people.
