Summary/Abstract: In 1866, in Petko R. Slaveikov’s newspaper Gaida, published in Constantinople, there appeared a chronicle, typical of the Byzantine short annals. In particular, it narrates the events of the Balkan history between the Ottoman seizure of Gallipoli and the fall of Nish. It was believed until recently that the text is an authentic Bulgarian chronicle of the 15th century. In contrast, my paper will argue that the text was compiled in the spring of 1866 by a wellknown Bulgarian Renaissance figure, Stefan Zahariev from Pazardzhik. I will further argue that the source for the text of it was a Serbian chronicle, published by A. Vukomanović in 1859.
