Support for the developmentof small and medium-sized enterprisesin marginalised areas providedby local government

Summary/Abstract: Marginalised areas are characterised by a smaller number of business environment institutions, which results in limited access to services dedicated to small and medium-sized enterprises. The development of these entities in the region necessitates favourable conditions which require entrepreneurial behaviour on the part of local government manifesting in: creativity and innovativeness, the ability to cooperate with enterprises in order to create a favourable climate for business, as well as thec apability to cooperate with othe rlocal government units and organisations. The paper aims to assess the effectiveness of SME support instruments used by local government and their impact on the development of these companies on the basis of the literature and the author’s own research carried out among owners and co-owners of small and medium-sized enterprises in marginalised areas.
