Summary/Abstract: The present study investigates the role generalized beliefs of control of effectiveness of coping with stressful encounter and mental well-being. The results indicate that internals and externals differ in effectiveness of their coping behavior. The external locus of control subjects show that they use in significant less extent planing and active coping styles and significant more use focus on and venting of emotions, behavioral disengagement, wish to escape from other people, psychological escape, ruminative style of coping, reassurance seeking and seeking social support for emotional reasons than do the internals. The externals report more high levels of depression than internals. Males and females differ in locus of control, levels of depression and ways of coping with stressful events.
