Summary/Abstract: The article aims to identify directions and scale of changes in competitive position of NUTS 3 regions in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) which took place between 2000 and 2012. This was examined on the basis of the analysis of statistical data (mainly GDP per capita, incidentally productivity and employment). The results show that despite some perturbations caused by the world economic crisis, the regions between 2000 and 2012 clearly improved their competitive position both in absolute and relative terms. It resulted mainly from improvement of their productivity, not employment. Nevertheless, in 2012 most of them were characterized by a lower level of competitive position than the average level in the EU. In 2012 in all CEE countries intgerregional differences in competitive position were greater than in 2000. It was connected with faster development of highly and average developed regions and slower development of low developed ones.
