Summary/Abstract: The text explores the life and work of the prominent editor, writer and Italianist, a press representative at the Bulgarian embassy in Rome – Nencho Iliev-Sirius in two contexts: 1. The intellectual life in Bulgaria before and after 9.ІХ.1944; 2. The repressive totalitarian regime with its attempt to erase from the collective memory the pro-European oriented Bulgarian journalism. The article maintains the belief that the present day exoneration of this journalism reveals the national intellectual life as an integral part of the European civilization fund.
