Summary/Abstract: The relationships between the participants in a supply chain directly affect the results of the whole chain, as well as of individual companies involved in it. This is one of the reasons to monitor relationships in a supply chain. Inadequately established relationships could cause higher costs of inventory, transport, and storage, lost sales, and longer response time to market demands. Many authors suggest that relationships should be built on trust. However, the question is whether it is possible to establish relationships of trust in a supply chain. Frequent market changes together with opportunistic and competitive behavior are a constant reminder of this question. In the past two decades Serbian economy had no adequate basis for the implementation of the supply chain concept. The business environment was characterized by mistrust, poor exchange of information, and unwillingness to take risks. Establishing trust between participants in the supply chain requires changing this atmosphere. Bearing in mind this context, it may be said that complete implementation of the supply chain concept in Serbia requires a change in companies’ business philosophy. Partners have to view the supply chain as an extension of their business and they have to be interested in establishing interactive relationships. Likewise, they must be willing to analyze conflicts and their causes, which lead to impaired relationships, and to continuously strive to overcome them.
