Summary/Abstract: This article aims to support the argument that the potential of the creative class as defined by Richard Florida and being a key element of the creative industries sector is an important element for sustainable city development strategy. For the purposes of the study the following research approaches were applied: functional approach, methodology of the functional analysis, comparative analysis, expert approach, benchmarking. These approaches to a greater extent base on research literature, and to a lesser extent on diagnostic testing (assessment of the facts), combining them with the creation of models and patterns. The latter are the basis for the preparation of utility solutions that could serve as practical implications for the process of creation strategy for sustainable development of urban areas.
