Eco-rating of hotels as a response to customers’ requirements

Summary/Abstract: Hospitality industry is one of the main sectors of the economy which has a substantially harmful impact on the environment. The main reasons of it are: the large scale of hotel industry worlwide and bad efficiency of resource use such as energy and water which are also responsible for creating a lot of waste. That is why observed development of awareness of environmental issues involved also hotels. Due to the importance and topicality of the issues this paper is focused on eco-rating of hotels. The date of the hospitality industry and the harmful effects of the hotels on the environment will be presented first. Next, changes in clients’ attitude to ecological initiatives of hotels and finally an example of eco-rating system and some conclusions will be shown. The following methods are used in the article: descriptive method, comparative method, reference books analysis and case study.
