Summary/Abstract: Minority rights are a set of specific measures that serve the protection, preservation and promotion of national or ethnic, cultural, linguistic and religious identity and characteristics of minority groups, and the realization of their full integration into the social, economic and public life, based on the principles of equality and non-discrimination. One of the main conditions for Serbia's admission to membership in the European Union (EU) is the protection of human and minority rights. Considering that the Republic of Serbia mulietnička state in which there are 22 ethnic minorities, special emphasis is placed on respect for and protection of minority rights. This paper analyzes the standards of minority protection in Serbia. Comparing legislative solutions in the field of minority protection in the Republic of Serbia, and najvažnih documents relating to the rights of minorities adopted in Europe, it is determined how the national legislation in line with EU legislation. The backbone of the analysis consists of the Constitution of the RS Law on Rights and Freedoms of National Minorities and the Law on National Councils of National Minorities, as well as the documents of the Council of Europe, OSCE and other relevant European organizations that directly deal with the protection of minority rights.
