Summary/Abstract: E-commerce is one of the most dynamically developing sectors of the Polish economy. E-commerce is characterized as a process of buying and selling products and services. In 2012, the electronic commerce market grew by almost 25%, reaching a value close to 22 million złoty. The purpose of this paper is to identify the key barriers which slow down the essential elements of the e-commerce in rural areas in Poland. Among the key factors affecting the dynamics of the development of e-commerce, can be identified: rural infrastructure, opinions and concerns of customers, as well as other factors resulting from the specific characteristics of the Internet medium. Therefore, it is hypothesized: the most significant barrier to the development of e-commerce in rural areas is underdeveloped ICT infrastructure
