Summary/Abstract: Friendship relations are very important interpersonal relations in the life of every individual. On the other hand, self construals about one's relations with others are im- portant determinants of the approach every person has to interpersonal relations. The goal of this study was research into the relations between some general characteristics of friendship relations a person has, and self construals of independence and interdepend- ence, as conceptualized by Ted Singelis. To explore this, we asked 374 students of Uni- versities of Belgrade and Niš to complete Singelis' SCS, as well as a questionnaire de- signed to collect information on some general characteristics of interpersonal relations a person has. The results showed a number of statistically significant correlations between independence and interdependence on one side, and characteristics of friendship rela- tions on the other. All obtained correlations were low, but their directions were in accor- dance with theoretical expectations. Additianally, the obtained results support reliability and constructive validity of SCS scales on our sample.
