SOCIOLOGY OF RELIGION IN POLAND AND IN THE WORLD – TRADITION AND CONTEMPORARY TIMES

Summary/Abstract: This article is a synthetic review of theoretical and empirical achievements of Polish and foreign sociology of religion. The author presents the major authors of this discipline – the classics of sociology, the masters of social anthropology, representatives of phenomenological concepts of religion. She shows contemporary conditions of sociology of religion – also through the most important personages of this field of knowledge, she mentions problems which are widely discussed – the functions of religion in modern secularized world, new religious movements, influence of global processes on a religious condition of societies.
