The Charitable Activity of the Catholic Church – Based on the Example of the Caritas Branch of Łódź

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to present charitable activities of the Catholic Church on the example of the Łódź branch of Caritas. The author raises several issues, including the relationship between religion and social capital, altruism and religiosity of the individual. The Łódź branch of Caritas realizes many different forms of aid activities, which benefit the poor, the sick, the disabled. Thanks to the commitment of thousands of volunteers, this organization can fully realize its statutory objectives. One should also appreciate the contribution of Caritas to the formation of the civil society.
