Summary/Abstract: This dictionary (which I shall refer to as OAED) is not the first Albanian-English dictionary1. However, it is claimed that it is the most comprehensive to date. It differs radically from any of its predecessors in ist aim, clearly stated by the author in the préface: "[This] dictionary [is] designed for those who expect to use a dictionary to help them read and understand existing Albanian text: it is not designed for those who expect to use a dictionary to tell them how to express themselves in speaking or writing Albanian".
