Summary/Abstract: Since the adjectives qualifying colour belong to one lexico-semantic group (i. e. to a class of words which have a common lexico-grammatical meaning), to one part of speech, have a common paradigm, it is possible to separate a whole system of word-building means (prefixes, suffixes, etc.) which modify their lexico-grammatical signification. According to our research, in all the wordbuilding ways and with all the wordbuilding means, the stem of the primary adjectives (of colours) or the stem of the nouns having colour as a semantic component is mostly present and less, the stem of the secondary adjectives (of colours); within the primary adjectives this happens with an ascending order to the furthest end of their hierarchy. Meanwhile, it is noteworthy: As is known, wordformation is one of the most important linguistic mechanisms guaranteeing the infinity of the lexicon. But, of course, wordformation does not guarantee the infinity of the lexicon to that degree which grammar guarantees the infinity of collocations. This depends on various factors, among them, on the linguistic tradition of the community. That’s why there are no i lëgjelbër (greenish), i lëzi (blackish), i lëkaltër (bluish) , etc. in Albanian. But, anyhow, the language has found other means – suffixes -¬emë and –osh to express the same meaning: i gjelberemë (greenish), i kaltërremë (bluish), zijosh (blackish).
