MEDIAN FORMULAS IN THE ROMANIAN FAIRY TALE

Summary/Abstract: Traditional formulas in Romanian fairy tales are based on oral tradition. Median formulas asure the continuity of comunication, calling and verifying the attention of hearers. If the initial and final formulas have enjoyed more attention from researchers, median formulas play an insignificant part in literature. This is because median formulas require greater consideration and an extra effort to be detected. They are found throughout the narrative, and their diversity and multiplicity have made systematization and classification difficult. Nicolae Roşianu had a major interest in these formulas, and ranked them according to how they arouse and verify hearersř attention and curiosiy. There are external formulas and internal median formulas, each with its subgroups. Median formulas are characterized by a great diversity and richness, and they play a substantial part in every fairy tale.
