Summary/Abstract: The study focuses on pointing out the features of the poetic language during the first half of the twentieth century. It revolves around the evolution of modernism especially in terms of language. Starting from the initiator of this literary movement in the Romanian literary field, this study traces back the stages and the changes involved in the process. Significant representatives are depicted along with their novelties displayed in the poetry, from Macedonski, the forerunner of modernism, to Arghezi, Blaga, Barbu and Philippide.
