Summary/Abstract: In Spanish, lexical blending is a word-formation process that forms new naming units by the amalgamation of two (rarely more) components. The merging process of the combining elements often makes use of shared phonetic material creating an overlapping effect, which is one of the characteristic features of blending. Syntactically, the union of the components can be coordinating or subordinating, resulting in a nominal, adjectival or verbal blend. The lexical originality and creativity of blends is highly appreciated and often used in journalism and advertising, as well as in slang and in the colloquial register.
