Summary/Abstract: For Russia, the Black Sea has always been an important region. Russia’s status as a European power depends on the way it exerts control over it. The illegal annexation of Crimea brought multiple geopolitical advantages to Moscow, helping the Kremlin speed up its plans to expand the Black Sea Fleet and turning Crimea into a strategic outpost of Russia.
