Public consultation as a tool of cooperation of citizens with local municipality on example of Olsztyn

Summary/Abstract: Society through the tool of public consultation can influence decisions taken by the authorities of both central and local government. Well-conducted public consultation builds a sense of community and shared responsibility for the decision taken. Such actions make the citizens identify themselves with a particular community and more likely engage in issues important to her. The main objective of the study was to verify by means of surveys how the residents of Olsztyn received public consultations and whether they were popular among them. After analyzing the results of the respondents it was agreed that knowledge of the consultation was low. Respondents would like to decide on important matters for local community, but they do not believe that their vote will be taken into account. Therefore, the majority of respondents did not participate in the public consultation.
