Summary/Abstract: The authors describe the phenomenon of maritime piracy, which is present since the beginning of shipping and carry out an analysis of the Convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Maritime Navigation of 1988. The second part of the article presents an offense described in Article. 166 of the polish Criminal Code relating to the acquisition of control over a ship or aircraft. The authors give a definition of the ship, offering conclusions in this regard de lege ferenda. They also present the important issue of place where an act of piracy is committed and analyse the criminal legal aspects of this particular offense.
