THE EVOLUTION OF F. A. SANTORTS ALPHABET SYSTEM - KEY TO DEFINING THE TIMEFRAME OF HIS WORKS

Summary/Abstract: Among of all the literary works of the arbëresh author Frangjisk Anton Santori (1819-1894), only four have been published while the author was alive. Three of them represent the exact publishing dates and locations while II Canzoniere albanese doesn’t provide us with this kind of information. The rest of this author’s known works have been published after his death in the form of scientific critical reviews and regular mass publishing. Some works still remain unpublished. In this article we aim to definie the dates in which Santori’s works were written based on linguistic and extra-linguistic arguments found in both primary and secondary sources. We propose that studying different alphabets used by Santori in his main works and in other archived documents such as correspondence and other short writings, will serve as an indicator of the time and locations where these works were created. In order to present an encompassing view of our main argument we have constructed a table containing a comparison of different types of alphabets used by Santori which includes all manuscripts of his known works.
