Summary/Abstract: A major objective of the research of the historical evolution of the popular clothing is that of arranging a chronological stratification as exact as possible of the singular pieces. Popular costumes, which have been elaborated and processed over the ages, are known to offer many kinds of elements and leftovers. Cultural influences, which are always correlated with historical and social events. The costumes offer traces of the ancient Balkan and Mediterranean civilization, of the Illyrian civilization, of the Byzantine and Eastern civilization, and, in these last centuries, also of the civilization of Western Europe. These cultural influences inevitably left their imprint in our costumes, here more superficial, there more anchored, according to the type of costume adopted and the economic and social conditions of the country to. the time.
