Summary/Abstract: The study is a contrastive analysis of the Nominative case and the syntactic function of subject in Romanian and German. It focuses on similarities as well as on differences between German and Romanian. We have noticed that, although they belong to different language families, the number of similarities outruns the number of differences. We have identified the similarities in both languages and then we have focused on differences, considering that the awareness of both of them is a useful tool both for language learners and for translators. The theoretical aspects have been exemplified by quotations from literary work.
