Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the voting preferences of the inhabitants of Western Pomerania in the years 1990–2010 during the local government elections from the political science perspective. The author presents the development of voting behavior in five cities of the region ruled by presidents since the establishment of local government in 1990. Then, from the election of 1998, the analysis has been extended by the results of the elections to the district councils and the West Pomeranian Regional Assembly. Since the elections of 2002, the study includes the results of the direct election of presidents. In order to better understand the process of changes in political preferences and the peculiarity of the West Pomerania region, the article presents also the overview of parliamentary elections and Presidential elections. In addition, the article examines changes in voting turnout and analyzes media coverage of local government elections. The article includes the study of which elections – the city council, president of the city or to the West Pomeranian Regional Assembly – achieved the greatest interest of the media. At the end, the author analyzes the changes that have occurred in political marketing in the first two decades of existence of the Third Republic.
