Summary/Abstract: The paper presents results of own research which were conducted among the group of 900 clients of food retail trade. Because of essential role of self-service in food retailing, attractive packaging of products becomes more and more important. Apart from its protective and transport functions packaging has to fulfill an information function, especially within conditions of limited engagement of sale staff in selling operations. The paper is an attempt to verify a position of food products’ packaging in a structure of information channels. Moreover, a scale of usage of quality certificates placed on packages to determine purchases of diversified groups of clients was analyzed as well.
