Summary/Abstract: Regional trade agreements have spread very rapidly throughout the world since 2008. The purpose of the paper is to present the EU and EFTA preferential trade agreements both in European and Mediterranean Basin regions. Moreover, the initiative leading to simplify and develop international trade were assessed. At the beginning a variety of RTAs notified in 1995–2015 by WTO were briefly described. Then the carried out analysis made it possible to compare the EU and EFTA regional trade agreements. The Pan-Euro-Mediterranean cumulation system and regional convention on preferential rules of origin were presented and assessed in the last part of the paper.
