Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the study is to identify the main trends in the international turnover of knowledge-intensive services and to indicate the main actors of this turnover. A review of the literature and definitions and classifications of knowledge-intensive services was carried out, so the empirical study was possible in the next step. The period of analysis covers the years 2000–2013. It applies to both international trade and foreign direct investment and offshoring of services. The results show that international trade in knowledge-intensive services develops faster than the total commercial services. The highest growth rate of exports occurred in case of computer and information services while the lowest in case of financial services. The main actors in the turnover of knowledge-intensive services are developed countries, but their importance is declining over time. The main value of the study is assignment of theoretical classifications of knowledge-intensive services to existing statistical systems as well as description of new and difficult to observe phenomenon of international turnover in knowledge-intensive services.
