Summary/Abstract: The restoration work executed at the reformat parish revealed a commemorative plate which brings to our attention the name of a personality born in Deva and an event that took place about four centuries ago. The plate was placed in June 1893, several months after the death of Salamon Ferencz, by the members of the History and Archaeology Society of Hunedoara County. This study is divided in two parts, one following the history of the parish’s building over the years by consulting the cartographic and documentary sources. As the plate specified the first parish house, which was donated by the Transylvanian prince Gabriel Bethlen, resisted until 19th century, being the house where Salamon Ferencz was born.The second part is trying to shortly resume the life and activity of Salamon Ferencz, publicist, poet and historian, member of Hungarian Academy, honorific member of the History and Archaeology Society of Hunedoara County.He was born in 29 August 1825, in Deva, being the son of Reformat priest Salamon Istvan. In 1836 he became student of the Reformat College from Aiud. After graduating law studies he moves to Turda, then Cluj. In 1848 he enlisted. After being wounded, Salamon Ferencz, teaches the deaf and dumb to express their self, after a personal method.In 1855 he is established in Pesta were he be had started a prolific publicist and literary activity. In 1859 Salamon Ferencz became Corresponding Member of Hungarian Academy of Science. For unknown reasons he give away his literary carrier starting a new interest in studying history. In 1863 he asks to be moved from Science section to the Philosophy and History one. In 1871 he became a full member of the Academy.As historian he dealt with the medieval studies. Among his studies, the most important is the history of Budapesta, in three volumes. For his activities, in 1887, he received from the emperor the Pro Literis et artibus. Salamon Ferencz dies in 1892, in Budapesta.
